Fat Loss Keys

The PaleoBurn book describes seven fat loss keys based on the paleo diet. These are things you have to do if you want to lose weight and get the figure you’ve always wanted. Many of these go against conventional wisdom, but they work.

  1. Eat high-quality foods. I feel so sorry for those dieters walking around eating low calorie breakfast bars. If you want to get in shape, you need to eat real food. Meat, eggs, fruits, and vegetables. Everything else will hamper your attempts at weight loss.
  2. Keep your insulin down. One of the reasons you want to avoid those processed foods is because most of them are full of carbohydrates, and when you eat carbohydrates, your insulin levels go up in response. Why is this important? Because insulin is what makes your body store fat. By eating healthy foods, your insulin levels will remain stable and your body will burn fat instead of storing fat.
  3. Do interval training. This is the type of exercise where you push yourself to the limit for thirty seconds or so then rest for a couple minutes. When you exercise this way, you’ll be done after 15 or 20 minutes and you’ll have gotten a great workout. Plus, your metabolism will skyrocket.
  4. Eat plenty of protein. There are some dieters who avoid protein because they’re afraid muscle weight will keep the number on the scale from going down. Please don’t focus on the scale. It’s not all about weight. If you don’t build muscle, you’ll end up looking like a smaller version of your current self.
  5. Fast once in a while. There’s a common belief that if you don’t eat often enough, your metabolism will slow down. This is completely untrue. There are now studies that your metabolism actually speeds up a little bit. Plus, you’ll have lost a little extra weight. Of course, it’s unhealthy to do this everyday. A good idea is to skip breakfast and lunch once a week.
  6. Drink plenty of water. Your body needs water to flush out all the toxins, and the organs need plenty of water to work efficiently. In addition, drinking lots of water helps prevent hunger and helps your body recover from workouts.
  7. Get lots of sleep. If you’re not getting eight hours of sleep a night, you’re going to have a really hard time getting in shape. Lack of sleep causes your body to produce cortisol, the stress hormone that wreaks havoc on your metabolism and immune system. In addition, your muscles will have trouble recovering without proper rest.
